‘Twilight’ Studio ‘Disappointed’ By Rachelle Lefevre’s Recasting Comments, Blames “Lack of Cooperative Spirit” for Eclipse Recast

Blood is starting to boil over and the fangs are out

Eclipse VampsThe war of words between fired “Twilight” actress Rachelle Lefevre and studio Summit Entertainment continued to escalate Wednesday evening, barely 24 hours after she was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard.

New-Moon-Victoria-twilight-series-5208398-394-597Yesterday, Rachelle Lefevre revealed that she was “stunned” and “greatly saddened” by Summit Entertainment’s decision to replace her with Bryce Dallas Howard in the role of evil vampire Victoria in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” Last night, Summit fired back, saying the Canadian actress failed to inform the studio until July 20 that she was planning to be in Europe shooting an indie film when the Twilight gang was already convening for rehearsals.

“We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre’s recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio,” reads a statement released by Summit late Wednesday. “Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.”

“It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to Barney’s Version, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June,” the statement continued. “Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.”

twilight evil vampsLefevre, who appears in the second installment of the series, “New Moon,” said she only needed 10 days off to work on “Barney’s Version.” She said, “Never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10-day overlap.” Summit fired back saying, “Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the studio dismissed her over a 10-day overlap,” the statement concludes. “It is not about a 10-day overlap, but instead about the fact that “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.”

Summit isn’t backing down on their decision and maintains that Lefevre left them no choice saying, “If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes, ‘passionate’ about being part of The ‘Twilight’ saga, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,’ ” it also says, making reference to Lefevre’s decision to shoot the Dustin Hoffman film “Barney’s Version,” a film she claims would have only created 10 days of interference that she assumed could be worked out between the two parties.

twilight vamps“Furthermore,” the statement reads, “Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least 10 days of [‘Eclipse’]’s principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.”

Twilight fans were shocked by the announcement yesterday and have lit up the internet with their displeasure over the casting switcheroo. This is the first time that a major character has been recast mid-series. Howard has remained mum on her upcoming role. The plot thickens…
