Emma Watson Handles Wardrobe Malfunction at Premiere with Grace, Laughs it off on Letterman

The lovely Emma Watson, who plays Hermoine Granger, was attending the London premiere of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” on Tuesday during a horribly rain-drenched event which soaked her and her co-stars. While Watson was simultaneously dodging the downpour and placating fans with autographs, her waist-high vintage wrap opened. Then, paparazzi took the requisite photos of the wardrobe malfunction.

57855767The real story is how the 19-year-old actress handled herself and the fashion faux pas.

It wasn’t until the star appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman the following night that the incident made Web buzz. ‘Tell us what’s going on here,’ said Letterman as he held up a picture of the incident. ‘This was a small wardrobe malfunction, it happens,’ Emma laughed, adding, ‘At least I’m wearing underwear.’ She added, head in hands, ‘I’m still learning, I’m still learning!’

This is not your typical actress-accidentally-on-purpose-exposes-skin story. For one, Emma Watson can and did claim, “At least I’m wearing underwear.” Not only was this a good-hearted jab at more popular skin exposing celebrities, but it’s also refreshing to see a young, successful female star retain some style, dignity and class. Beyond this the incident has produced positive responses from fans about her composure and sense of humor.

By the way, the dress was a stunning vintage floor-length Ossie Clark floral gown with a neckline which plunged to her waist. On her Letterman appearance, she wore a delicate nude organza Christopher Kane Fall ’09 tiered dress with black trim. Bravo Emma!
