I am heartbroken
Grey’s Anatomy left us with a huge cliffhanger about who would survive: Izzy (Katherine Heigl) or George (T.R. Knight). Now, the suspense is over since EW is reporting that T.R. Knight will not be returning to the show. The official decision came down in the past few days, just as many of cast-mates began receiving their formal pickup letters. Reps for Knight and ABC declined to comment.
The actor’s exit from the show closes another rocky chapter for the show, which has seen the scandalous removal of Isiah Washington. Rumors have been circulating for months that Knight was clashing with series creator Shonda Rhimes, and any series fan couldn’t help but noticed how Dr. George O’Malley was hardly seen in this season’s episodes. Knight grew so fed up with his character’s lack of storyline that he asked if he could check out, three years before his deal expired.
In the season finale, it was revealed in an epic twist that George was actually a disfigured John Doe who had been hit by a bus. It was the perfect storyline for George, who laid low all season almost to the point where the other staff didn’t know he was gone.
So, what will Knight do now? Insiders say he’s in talks to headline a Broadway revival of Lend Me a Tenor, the classic farce he recently did a reading of with Alfred Molina, Tony Shalhoub, and Marian Seldes.
