Robyn and Mel Gibson just issued this statement regarding the divorce papers filed last week: “Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so.”
After 28 years and 7 children, Mel Gibson’s wife, Robyn, filed for divorce on Good Friday, of all days, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Robyn has stood by his side throughout his numerous scandals that involved his drunk driving arrest, alleged infidelity and religious zealotry. Mel and Robyn, who married in 1980, didn’t have a prenup at the time of their marriage. Mel has since become one of the biggest stars in the world, so Robyn’s new title could be $450Million Woman since Mel’s fortune is estimated at $900Million.
In the divorce papers obtained by TMZ, the date of separation is listed as “TBD” calling into question just how long the two have been apart. In Robyn’s legal papers, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, she seeks joint physical and legal custody of Tom, 10, the only of their children who is a minor. Robyn is also asking for spousal support and attorneys fees.
On March 4, photo’s surfaced of the actor kissing a young, bikini clad woman in the Costa Rican surf who was definitely not his wife. Gibson never commented on the photo’s, which sent the rumor mill into overdrive that Mel and Robyn would separating. Mel owns a nearly 300-acre spread on the Pacific Ocean shores of Barrigona Beach in the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica. The actor spent the early part of March there, reportedly with several of his sons, his sons’ girlfriends and an assortment of other guests. Robyn was nowhere to be seen.
